Amnesia

One day the angel of death visited you and tried to take away your life. You remembered God and sought Him for help, asked Him to command the angel to leave you and spare you your life.

A few days later you whine over life’s little problems.

Oh, how easily you’ve forgotten!?

August clearance sale

Maybe I spoke too soon. Maybe I can still blog every day. Maybe there are times I feel so exhausted, but my urge to blog is far greater than the exhaustion I am feeling.

Maybe after a tiring day in the office, I can still go out, do a little shopping, have a nice dinner with friends, and still find time to blog before I go to sleep -- like what I am doing now!

Ems is back from Germany and her pasalubong was no less than a news about an ongoing clearance sale at G2000 at Aberdeen Center.

Straight from the office, Ems, Peanuts, Louise and I went to the big sale and got really surprised with the really low prices. Imagine I bought four long sleeves for a little over $200. On a regular day, that would’ve cost me around $700 already!

My thanks to Ems for sharing the news, and to Ger who allowed us to use his membership for an additional 10% discount.

I also checked Giordano that’s located infront of G2000 and confirmed another clearance sale. I’ll be back on Thursday.

I so love August in Hong Kong!

***

Almost a month ago, I was also able to find a really good deal for a japeyks Diesel bag at Mong Kok market.

I really had no plans of buying that, but because the sales lady held Ems “hostage”, I was somewhat forced into purchasing it. For $70 I got Ems back, and got myself a nice looking messenger bag. Thanks to the persistent sales lady!

Back to Ortigas

I don’t want blogging to be a weekly thing, but that may be the case in the next couple of weeks. Work is taking too much of my time that, by the time I get home, I feel so exhausted and don’t want to touch the PC anymore. My fingers are just too tired to type and my thoughts need a lot of organization. I rarely even cook nowadays!

I was off to Shenzhen for a day and, when I checked my inbox the following day, the bigwigs have lined up a number of deliverables for me, including eight powerpoint presentations and other collaterals on top of my usual work load. Then, on Friday, I spent half of my day in a meeting. Now I need to organize my thoughts and put into writing the minutes of that meeting. Whew, great!

I’m not complaining. In fact, I am getting used to it already. This is what most of my seniors do and this is what I will be doing up until my contract here expires – so whether I like it or not, I need to equip myself with tons of whatever’s needed to accomplish my tasks.

I am so “liking” this that I wanted to go to the office last Saturday to cross one or two items off my tasklists, but my boss reminded me that that won’t be possible because of the ongoing renovation in the office.

***

Talking about renovation, we all wore masks today just so we could minimize dust inhalation. It wasn’t really a torture, but it was funny to see people in the office wearing masks. It made me remember two things: my pharmacy laboratory classes and SARS.

***

Something happened to +honhon+ last Thursday that I almost bought an air ticket to Pinas. Good thing everything’s ok now. +We'll+ just deal with the issue next month.

***

The company +honhon+ works for is having an identity crisis. +Honhon+’s office was originally based in Ortigas but, in November last year, when somebody thought it was time to do a little company experiment, management moved the office to Makati. (+We+ loved this experiment because it meant less transportation time and money for +honhon+ since +we+ live in Makati).

Now perhaps management got a little bored with Makati so they’re moving the office back to Ortigas, but this time to a posh-ier building that’s one block away from their original location. Hmp!

Consolation

Issue: The other day, I got my passport back with a double-entry China visa. Wow, I said, until I saw my picture slightly ripped and a couple of pages folded. Two things crossed my mind: (1) they just weren’t careful enough, and (2) they did that on purpose thinking I did some tampering. I hope it’s not the second one.

Consolation: After office, I went to McDonald’s and bought myself two Big Mac burgers for dinner.

Issue: I just got back from Shenzhen. Work-wise, it was a blast! I really loved my day at the SZ office; liked the place, too. Borrowing the words of our new communications manager who was also with me this morning, GS is a “posh office in a posh building.” Thing is, that’s the only place I’ve seen in SZ. My day was simply: home - immigration - office - immigration - home. No sidetrips, no window shopping, no pictures!

Consolation: Straight from the KCR, I went to New World Center in Tsim Sha Tsui for some window shopping. Then, I went to McDonald’s to buy two McChicken burgers. Wuhoo!

****
Note: See, ganyan kababaw ang kaligayahan ko – McDo lang ang katapat! Siguro kung marami lang Jollibee dito sa Hong Kong, I would’ve bought myself a two-piece chicken meal kasi that’s what I used to do in Manila. Oh I miss Jollibee – makapunta nga this Sunday!

Tumbling, tumbalelong

Tumbling: I’ll be traveling to China on Wednesday. For the first time, I’ll be seeing our much-talked-about, “state-of-the-art” office in Shenzhen. I will also finally be seeing the faces of people whose names appear on my monitor everyday and whose voices I hear on the phone.

Tumbalelong: I don’t have a business card yet, and I was informed that it is necessary to have one when applying for a China visa from Hong Kong. I submitted my application anyway. We’ll see on Monday.

Tumbling: This is my chance to get a 6-months multiple-entry visa. If it gets approved, my weekends will probably be more exciting as I promise to cross the border more often for shopping and sightseeing.

Tumbalelong: I'm not being negative, but there is a chance that immigration won’t grant me a multiple visa because my HK employment pass is about to expire. Another tumbalelong: Once I get that multiple visa, my boss can send me to Shenzhen as often as he likes – yaiks!

Tumbling: I am having more visibility in the office now.

Tumbalelong: It’s Saturday and I’m working from home to finish some tasks. Thing is, it’s holiday in Manila on Monday and I won’t be able to bug our artists for some of my pending projects. My Tuesday will surely be hell!

Tumbling: +Honhon+ and I will be spending 4 days and 3 nights in Singapore next month, including a day trip to Malaysia. We’re really very excited about that trip! Our tickets have already been issued last month.

Tumbalelong: Last Thursday, I told my boss about my planned leave and it looks like I can’t proceed with my original Sept 15 flight (Oh no!). I have yet to confirm in the next few days. Wish me luck, otherwise, I would have to pay additional for rebooking of tickets!

Tumbling: After the Singapore trip, I’ll be going home to Batangas for mama’s 4th death anniversary. I’ll finally get the chance to visit her and tell her about my life here in HK.

Tumbalelong: The whole clan will be there so I really need to start saving money now.

Tumbling: It’s 5 years and 7 months for +honhon+ and I, wuhoo!

Tumbalelong: +Honhon+’s in Pinas and I’m 712 miles away. Need I say more?!
