Tonight’s American Idol show

OMG, Am Idol Blake Lewis was glowing tonight! There’s something about him in this episode that made me want to give him a hug. I love his hair. His coat. His lips. His smile. His aura. And his voice, too, though I would have to agree with the judges that the song didn’t give him enough room for some vocal calisthenics. I was moved, nevertheless, by his relaxed performance.

I was also moved by the image I saw the other day:

Well, it might be cute but don’t just believe what you see. There’s actually a Photoshop genius behind that image. Someone who loves Blake and Chris, and thinks they’d make a lovely couple.

No, I’m not the Photoshop genius who did that, but I do agree that they’d make a gorgeous couple. They’d fit perfectly in the remake of "Queer As Folk". I’m just not sure if they would play Brian and Justin or Mike and Ben.

Another idol that deserves to be hugged, for having a great performance on stage, is Jordin Sparks. I love how she has grown in this competition. I also love how she creates a different look each week, but still remains to be the sweet and bubbly seventeener with a powerful voice.

I love most of Jordin's performances, but most especially the one when she sang “I who have nothing”. I was so impressed by her performance that night that I played it a number of times on Youtube that week.

Probably the only thing I don’t like about her – and I’m becoming too personal about it – is that she looked like the US Embassy consul who interviewed me and rejected my visa application a couple of years back (Jeko, move on, please!). Other than that, I’d be happy if she becomes this year’s idol.

Come to think of it, all of the remaining finalists deserve to be this year’s big winner.

I think all the contestants did really well this week (good thing Sanjaya is no longer in the competition). I think none of them will be sent home tomorrow night. Common, it’s Idol-gives-back-week and management should be equally generous by not sending any of the idols home, at least for this week.

(Uh-oh, but what if the twist is that they send someone back? Oh please make it Rudy Cardenas or Sabrina Sloan, not Sanjaya Malakar or Antonella Barba).

But just in case someone really needs to go home, I think I’d be ok whoever that would be. I’m just happy that my six favorites have made it this far. I'm sure whoever wins this would really make it big in the music industry.  I'm also sure I'd buy a copy of his/her album, especially if there’s a bonus song featuring the Blake-Chris duet.

I’d probably buy a dozen if Blake and Chris would sing +our+ theme song, “You” by the Carpenters.

"You are the one who makes me happy
When everything else turns to grey..."

Heaven again

Looks like I won’t be visiting Cebu Pacific for the next six months.

It’s pretty obvious that I’ve been under the weather lately and visiting that site (among others) has somehow kept my sanity.

I’ve just booked three flights. My Pinas trip next month. +honhon+’s HK trip in June. And another one of Jeko’s Pinas trip, in September.

You should've seen my big smile when I received the e-tickets.

The only thing left to do is to convert +honhon+’s Mabuhay miles to Kalibo roundtrip tickets and that pretty much sums up our trips for 2007.

I am so in the mood again. Wuhoo!

Another day in Shenzhen

There’s something about this day that made me want to cross the border.

Maybe I wanted to get a really cheap haircut. Maybe I needed to buy a few items available only in Dong Men. Maybe I wanted some adventure. Or maybe I just wanted to maximize my China visa since it will expire early next month.

Whatever it is, I pretty much didn’t care.

After I finished my bowl of oats for breakfast, I took a shower, grabbed my bag and took the one-and-a-half-hour trip to Shenzhen.

Missing Pinas

It feels like everything else stops when I'm here in HK -- can't seem to enjoy the little pleasures I get when I'm in Pinas.

I'm tired of pretending I can cook, so tired of the daily production number in the kitchen. It's fun to cook every now and then, but the idea of having to prepare food for myself everyday? Uh!

Increasingly I've been relying on take-out food for dinner. And that only aggravates my frustration.

I miss the carinderia in Makati, the one that's just a stone's throw away from +our+ apartment. 30 pesos is enough to buy me a decent meal. Add another 70 and I get a fabulous instant dinner date with +honhon+. Life can be that simple and cheap in Pinas.

I also miss the cutesy salon along Evangelista. Haircut is 50 pesos and footspa is 100. Once I decided to color my hair and it only cost me 250. Here a simple haircut is already 70, and that's in HK dollars!

Getting a cut also involves a certain degree of difficulty, most of my instructions just get lost in translation. Of course they do have a standard haircut, the electrocuted look, but that’s something I don't want to get (I’ve had that once and that’s enough). Getting a nice cut is as rare as winning the lottery; maybe I should bring a rabbit's foot on my next visit.

I also miss the facial center in Park Square. If I go to them now, they'd probably charge me double for being such a comedone magnet. And I'd probably be hurting and screaming like hell for hours.

Oh well, I miss many things about Pinas.

What really makes me grumpy is the fact that I missed two great opportunities to go home to Pinas. One in Feb (Chinese New Year) and another this month (Holy Week), when I turned my flat into a hotel and entertained guests.

Loneliness must have been rubbing on me. Now I need to go home as soon as possible, before I become really, really grumpy.

Sinner or saint?

I came across this quote while surfing the Net the other day: ‘Every saint has a past; every sinner, a future.’

I’m actually just a phone call away from knowing if I’m a sinner or a saint. Promise, I’m going to make that call tomorrow.
